Papademos stresses that sacrifices were 'not done in vain'

On the way out of his term as Greece's Prime Minister, Lucas Papademos delivered a message to the Greek people, shortly before Greece's next next interim Prime Minister Panagiotis Pikramenos took office.

Papademos made clear that it would be an economic disaster if Greece made a conscious choice to withdraw itself from the Eurozone, and that it would be a strategic defeat for the country.
The main message that Papademos wanted to convey that the sacrifices made by the Greek citizens was were not "done in vain"  but were done to ensure the consolidation and restructuring of the Greek economy with the aid of the European instruments.
Papademos refers to this as "the most crucial decision of the last 38 years" and urges the continued efforts to overcome the recession and the crisis will be achieved where the country will return to stability, sustainable development and social prosperity.
He said: "It is still critical that the adjustment of our economy should be completed in a few years rather than in decades and made in coordination with other member states of the Eurozone."
He stressed that some expect to benefit from the chaos that would follow a humiliating exit of the country from the common European currency and warned that terminating the contractual commitments of the country would be disastrous for Greece, as it will inevitably lead to an exit from the euro and possibly ousted from the EU.       europe on line
