'This is Kyiv's last chance'

Roman Goncharenko, of DW's Russian service, says the operation underway in eastern Ukraine is imperative for Kyiv, perhaps its last chance to hold onto the territory.

With rhetoric between US and Russian officials escalating, the situation in eastern Ukraine is resembling more and more a kind of tug of war. A Ukrainian military operation by the Kyiv government is currently underway in a bid to oust pro-Russian separatists who have occupied government buildings in a number of eastern Ukrainian cities.
